Villanova Wildcats standout Acaden Lewis brings proven scoring and playmaking to Coral Gables, aiming to elevate the Miami Hurricanes' offense for a competitive season.
The Miami Hurricanes men’s basketball program secures a commitment from transfer portal guard Acaden Lewis, first announced on his social media. The 20-year-old averaged 12.2 points on 45.6 percent shooting, three rebounds, 5.3 assists, and 1.9 steals in 33 games with the Villanova Wildcats. He earned All-Big East Second Team honors and was a unanimous choice for the Big East All-Freshman team.
Lewis declared for the upcoming NBA Draft, but entered the transfer portal to maintain NCAA eligibility. The Washington, D.C., native will return to college basketball, but his talents will be on display at Coral Gables, Florida.
As a high school recruit coming from Sidwell Friends School, Lewis averaged 11.7 points on 46 percent shooting, 33 percent from three-point range, three rebounds, and 2.4 assists in 70 games over three seasons. He was ranked 35th in the nation, fifth among point guards, and first in the state for the 2025 recruiting class, according to Rivals Industry Rankings.
The former four-star prospect received interest and offers from numerous programs, including the Florida State Seminoles, Kentucky Wildcats, Duke Blue Devils, North Carolina Tar Heels, Ole Miss Rebels, Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, and Louisville Cardinals, among others, before committing to Villanova on May 1, 2025.
The Hurricanes were a part of Lewis’ high school recruiting process and took an official visit with the program a month after coach Jai Lucas was officially hired. It’s officially a full-circle moment for the 20-year-old. He is projected to be the team’s starting point guard as Tre Donaldson departs for the upcoming NBA Draft.
As the program comes off a historic 26-9 season turnaround, coach Lucas seeks to take things a step further, despite numerous departures to the transfer portal, such as Tru Washington to the Xavier Musketeers.
The Hurricanes successfully added a top-market point guard and center to join Shelton Henderson, Dante Allen, and Caleb Gaskins.
Coach Lucas might have the new starting lineup established for next season. However, the bench unit needs upgrades after ranking 299th in scoring among Division I Programs last year. There are still highly-touted transfer portal prospects available, which can fit the bill.
Despite Lewis’ freshman success with the Wildcats, he struggled with outside shooting, 27 percent. If the new Hurricanes guard can improve in that area, it unlocks extra opportunities for the team’s offense.
As the program enters its second year with coach Lucas at the helm, the talent coming in will lead to another competitive season.
