The Miami Hurricanes pursue top-ranked edge rusher Asher Ghioto for a multi-day visit, aiming to bolster their dominant defensive line.
As the recruiting class of 2027 schedules visits with programs and cuts down a long list of offers, the Miami Hurricanes are looking further into the future. It was reported on Friday, Feb. 27, that four-star edge rusher Asher Ghioto will take a trip around the Coral Gables campus from April 2 to 4.
The Jacksonville native currently attends The Bolles School, a private institution. He's recorded 150 total tackles, 113 solos and 37 assists, 56 tackles for loss, 30 sacks, 37 quarterback hurries, and one interception in 27 total games over two seasons.
Ghioto has received interest and offers from numerous programs, including the Florida Gators, Alabama Crimson Tide, Florida State Seminoles, Georgia Bulldogs, LSU Tigers, Michigan Wolverines, Ohio State Buckeyes, Oregon Ducks, Texas Longhorns, and Notre Dame Fighting Irish, among many others.
He's listed at 6-5, 240 pounds, and ranked 12th nationally, second among defensive linemen, and fifth in the state for the class of 2028, according to 247Sports Composite.
The Hurricanes just had arguably the best edge-rushing duo in the nation in Rueben Bain Jr. and Akheem Mesidor. Both wreaked havoc against opposing quarterbacks and offensive linemen. They're projected to be first-round selections in the upcoming NFL Draft. Regardless of the departures, the team has Marquise Lightfoot and Hayden Lowe ready to step into expanded roles.
The program completely turned around on the defensive side of the field last season, especially under defensive coordinator Corey Heterman's first year with the program. He was in the running for the Broyles Award, which is presented to the nation's top assistant.
If committed to the Hurricanes, Ghioto would develop directly under defensive line coach and Pro Football Hall of Famer Jason Taylor. He played a critical role in Bain Jr.'s development, who's coming off an All-American season, plus winning the ACC Defensive Player of the Year and Ted Hendricks Award.
The four-star recruit made several unofficial visits: six with the Seminoles, one with the Wolverines, one with the Clemson Tigers, one with the Florida Gators, one with the Ohio State Buckeyes, and one with the Hurricanes.
Coach Mario Cristobal and the program have taken great pride in developing homegrown talent, including Bain Jr., who's a Miami native.
Ghioto is committed to participating in the Polynesian Bowl, which takes place on Jan. 22, 2027.
The four-star prospect has plenty of time to evaluate all options, then make a final decision on what's best for his future.
