Miami Central linebacker Steven Moore visits Thursday, potentially solidifying hometown talent for the Miami Hurricanes' recruiting resurgence.
As the Miami Hurricanes prepare for a new season, a huge number of high school recruits are set to visit the Coral Gables campus and facility, potentially looking at a new place to call home. Among the list of prospects is Steven Moore, who is a three-star linebacker and scheduled to meet on Thursday, April 2. He currently attends Miami Central High School, a secondary institution located in Miami-Dade County, Florida.
Moore recorded 29 total tackles, six tackles for loss, and three interceptions in nine games over two seasons, playing as an outside and middle linebacker. The Miami native is listed at 6-1, 215 pounds, and ranked 365th nationally, 28th among his position, and 46th in the state for the class of 2028, according to Rivals Industry Rankings.
The current high school sophomore has received interest and offers from other programs, including the South Florida Bulls, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Syracuse Orange, Missouri Tigers, Florida Atlantic Owls, Florida International University Panthers, and West Virginia Mountaineers, among others.
As Moore takes time to walk around the Coral Gables campus and facility, the idea of staying and playing close to home could impact the recruiting process.
Coming off a National Championship, the Hurricanes seek to remain competitive. Part of what resulted in the turnaround was recruiting and developing in-house prospects. The program seeks to keep the trend going, with Moore potentially joining the mix.
The four-star scheduled spring visits with a couple of more in-state teams, such as the Florida Gators and Florida State Seminoles, both of whom haven’t officially presented scholarship offers. However, that could change upon Moore’s arrival.
As part of the recruiting class of 2028, the Miami prospect has time before other programs begin to show interest. Upon his visit, the Hurricanes will have an opportunity to make an early impression.
Spring training officially opened, leaving the new revamped roster to develop chemistry and looking to handle unfinished business. Moore will have an opportunity to watch practices and see how work is done on the Greentree Practice Fields.
The Hurricanes have taken a stronger approach when it comes to recruiting and developing in-house talent. Players such as All-American Rueben Bain Jr., star running back Mark Fletcher Jr., and linebacker Wesley Bissainthe, among others, were homegrown and were strong contributors to the program’s turnaround.
As they embark on a new chapter, Moore could look to be part of the new trajectory established. However, the four-star prospect will have plenty of time before making a final decision.
