The Alabama Crimson Tide star player was arrested four days before they're set to play in the NCAA tournament.

Just four days before the start of the NCAA tournament, the Alabama Crimson Tide men's basketball program has their dreams on hold a bit as one of their most impactful players was arrested Monday morning in Tuscaloosa on felony drug charges. Crimson Tide star guard Aden Holloway has been charged with first-degree possession of marijuana and failure to affix a tax stamp. A search was conducted by the West Alabama Narcotics Task Force where over a pound of marijuana was discovered along with “paraphernalia and cash.”

Holloway’s bond was set at $5k and it’s not clear whether he’s still being held. The university and Alabama head coach Nate Oats have yet to publicly comment. The arrest is certainly a blow to the Crimson Tide as they enter the NCAA tournament as the No. 4 seed and are scheduled to face Hofstra Pride men's basketball in the first round on Friday. If they don’t have Holloway, Alabama will be severely hamstringed as he has been key to the offensive attack. The junior is the second-leading scorer averaging 16.8 points per game. Holloway transferred from the Auburn Tigers and has been in Tuscaloosa for two years, but this is his first as a full-time starter.

Here is the full story from Bama Roundtable writer Hannah Stephens on the arrest and the impact Holloway has made on the court.

Should Holloway be unable to play due to legal issues or subsequent disciplinary action from the program, he would be a major absence, and it would seriously affect the Crimson Tide’s rotation at guard and overall rhythm.
