Texas Tech's appeal denial is the latest setback for Sorsby, who was ruled ineligible after admitting he bet on his own team.

The ruling by the NCAA is quite simple. Texas Tech Red Raiders quarterback Brendan Sorsby bet on sports, including his own team. Whether Sorsby plays college football ever again comes down to two separate proceedings, the first of which was shut down, as the NCAA has denied Texas Tech’s appeal to reinstate Sorsby’s eligibility.

The fate of his college football career is now in the hands of a Lubbock County Texas judge who will continue to weigh the lawsuit. Sorsby was ruled ineligible after admitting he gambled on sports during his collegiate career, including on his own team while he was with the Indiana Hoosiers program, playing two seasons there before transferring to start for the Cincinnati Bearcats in 2024 and 2025. He transferred to the Red Raiders in January but was formally declared ineligible on May 18 by the school, which was require for them to submit their request that the NCAA denied.

To read more about things hitting a brick wall for Sorsby and Texas Tech, here is the full story from Red Raiders Roundtable writer Timonthy Hamm.

The only recourse left for Sorsby is in the courtroom, after filing a suit on May 18 to seek a temporary injunction that would allow him to play, but as of Friday, there has been no ruling by Judge Ken Curry. The court ruling could overrule the NCAA’s decision, but it puts things sincerely in a bind for both parties after his eligibility will remain up in the air entering summer workouts.
