The Syracuse Orange let go of their head basketball coach after a three-year stint.

The Syracuse Orange men’s basketball team ended their 2025-26 campaign in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Tournament when they lost in the first round on Tuesday 86-69 to the SMU Mustangs. They finished 15-17 overall (6-12 ACC) and lost their last six games straight in a disappointing finish. As a result, the Orange let go of men's basketball coach Adrian Autry on Wednesday, firing him after three years of failing to reach the NCAA tournament. After taking over for Hall of Famer Jim Boeheim, Autry couldn’t generate any momentum and finishes at Syracuse with a 49-48 record. The program will miss the tournament for a fifth straight year.

Autry played under Boeheim at Syracuse from 1990 to 1994 and later coached under him from 2011 to 2023 when he took over as the natural successor, spending seven seasons as his associate head coach. Things just never materialized, and now the Orange will conduct a national search for their next leader. To complicate matters, athletic director John Wildhack is retiring in June, and reportedly, his successor will make the final call.

Here is the full story from Syracuse Roundtable writer Brady Farkas on a list of strong candidates for the role.

At first, things got off hot under Autry, who led them to a 20-win season his first year at the helm and a 11-9 ACC record that was good for a fifth-place finish. It just never got back to that high point thereafter, and Syracuse will now cut their losses and try to find that success under their next leader.
