North Carolina head coach Bill Belichick broke his silence about the program's ongoing investigation.

The 2026 college football season got off to a good start for the North Carolina Tar Heels and head coach Bill Belichick. In their first game of the season, they took home a hard-fought 15-10 road victory over the TCU Horned Frogs.

Unfortunately, the season-opening win has been overshadowed by an investigation.

Michael Lombardi, the team's general manager, opted to resign from his position due to the investigation. He had faced complaints and accusations of bullying employees, ignoring compliance guidelines, and being excessive in his oversight of staff members.

Another dramatic situation has involved Belichick's son, Steve Belichick. The Tar Heels' defensive coordinator has been on a medical absence and has faced questioning over drug-related issues that allegedly also involves players.

With the investigation and drama continuing to unfold, Belichick finally broke his silence.

Belichick was asked about the investigation. He refused to get into it, rather shifting the conversation back to the football field.

“I’m not involved in any other part of the process. My job is to get the team ready to play this weekend and that’s what we’re going to do," he said.

In addition, the NFL coaching legend also made it clear that his players are at the top of his priority list.

“The importance of the work that’s being done by the investigative team and, obviously, our high standard here of our code of conduct and doing things the right way and making sure that our student-athletes are given the utmost, the best treatment, the very best care, and the very best coaching that we can possibly give them. So that’s critically important to us," Belichick said.

Next up for North Carolina will be a September 12th matchup against East Tennessee State. Belichick will look to improve his squad to 2-0 on the young season.

During his first season as the head coach of the Tar Heels, disaster struck for Belichick. North Carolina mustered up a 4-8 overall record and went just 2-6 in ACC play.

Should things not turn around this season, there has been a lot of speculation that Belichick could be looking for a new job.

Only time will tell what the future has in store for the North Carolina football program. Belichick picking up a Week 0 win was important. Now, the Tar Heels must find a way to string a few wins together to help quiet down the outside noise.
