Steve Angeli returns to the lineup as Syracuse prepares for a sold-out clash in Chapel Hill.
Just over 24 hours until kickoff, the Syracuse Orange have officially announced who will be starting in Week 8 at a sold-out Kenan Stadium against the North Carolina Tar Heels.
According to On3's Pete Nakos, Syracuse expects Steve Angeli to start against UNC.
Angeli exited against Pittsburgh on Thursday, Sept. 17, but it's been quite a work in progress for this team at quarterback.
The New Jersey native has the most pass attempts, by far, with 104, though he's completed just 54.8% of those.
Angeli came into the year as the team's QB1, and even after Malachi Nelson and Amari Odom saw quite a bit of playing time, both have been ruled out for this ACC showdown.
Remember, Angeli appeared as questionable on the injury report through Thursday, Oct. 22, so this is big news for the Orange as it means they won't have to start junior Danny Lauter, who is just 5/11 this season.
Syracuse is ready for Angeli's return
This season hasn't been an easy one for the Orange, but this matchup against UNC could give them a chance to turn things around.
North Carolina just saw defensive lineman Xavier Lewis crack the top 25 college football players in the nation, so it's clear this Tar Heels defense isn't going to make things easy on a recently returning quarterback.
For the most part, UNC has taken care of business against teams it's supposed to beat this season. The Clemson game is a bit of an outlier, but the weather had a major impact on that one.
Regardless, Bill Belichick could be one win away from becoming bowl eligible if UNC gets the job done on Saturday, Oct. 24 against an Angeli-led Syracuse offense.
UNC's scouting report on Angeli
Angeli has appeared in three games this season, and he's already been sacked eight times.
This Syracuse offensive line has allowed 15 sacks, so to say that's an issue would be an understatement.
The senior QB looked tremendous with a trio of touchdown passes against New Hampshire, but he was quickly humbled with a combined one touchdown and five interceptions against California and Pittsburgh.
If not for the team's 66-3 win against the Wildcats, Angeli's numbers would look like this: 37/75 (49.3%), 458 yards, one touchdown, five interceptions, five sacks, 11 carries for negative nine yards.
Keep in mind, Angeli's longest run of the year was for eight yards against the Panthers, so these sacks have been a detriment to his game.
