Facing a ranked opponent, the North Carolina Tar Heels must neutralize a high-scoring sophomore quarterback and survive a battle-tested defense.

The North Carolina Tar Heels head into Week 6 knowing it'll be their second consecutive ranked matchup.

After losing to No. 3 Notre Dame, 37-26, UNC fell to 2-2 and remains 0-1 in conference play.

Now, their second ACC opponent is none other than No. 25 Pittsburgh.

Bill Belichick's squad is 0-1 on the road this season, though that 28-20 loss at Clemson is one that may have changed the trajectory of their entire season.

That's not to say the Tar Heels were going to beat the Tigers and then take down the Fighting Irish, but an 0-2 start in the ACC is a real possibility with how the Panthers have started the season.

Pittsburgh had an extra day of rest

Something like this shouldn't be the end of the world, but it can't be understated how much the little things matter.

UNC's bye week helped them prepare for a battle in the first 30 minutes against Notre Dame, but then everything slowly started to fall apart.

Pittsburgh's last game came on Friday, Oct. 2, when they defeated Virginia Tech 35-33 thanks to the Hokies missing a 36-yard field goal as time expired.

Panthers have had two games decided by five points or fewer

Obviously, Pittsburgh had a couple of blowout non-conference wins, but they were taken to their limit against UCF, and then most recently against Virginia Tech.

To see them go to Lane Stadium and pick up a two-point victory was incredibly impressive, but so was their 12-7 win against UCF in Week 2.

Pittsburgh still had over 200 passing yards and over 100 rushing yards in that game, but their lone touchdown came from Damon Ferguson Jr.

So the question is, how did they score 12 points? Did they miss an extra point? Was there a failed two-point conversion? No, it was a field goal, a safety, and a touchdown that got the job done.

At one point, UCF trailed 5-0.

Mason Heintschel has 14 touchdowns to one interception

UNC is fresh off a battle with Heisman hopeful CJ Carr, and that's not saying Mason Heintschel is on his level, but the sophomore is off to an incredible start.

Heintschel is tied for sixth in the league with his 14 touchdowns, and he's 20th overall with 1,304 passing yards in five games.

Both of his best performances were against Miami (OH) and Bucknell. It's incredibly impressive to see him throw for 400+ yards in both of those games, but he also only threw for 123 yards against Syracuse and 113 against the Hokies.
