One of the running backs on the North Carolina Tar Heels opened up about the ongoing investigation with the team.

The North Carolina Tar Heels were able to get a massive win over TCU to open the season, grabbing some revenge for a tough loss last year.

Starting off the season on a high note was great for this program after a disappointing 2025 season. But the hype around the win was short-lived.

The program has been dealing with an ongoing investigation, leading to Michael Lombardi, the team's general manger to resign from his position. Lombardi has faced complaints and accusations of ignoring compliance guidelines, bullying other employees, and excessive oversight of different staff members.

These are serious allegations against the program, leading to his resignation. But on the field, this could be a distraction for the players as they try to build on the big season-opening win.

However, running back Benjamin Hall said that the locker room isn't focusing on anything in the news. Instead, he said that the Tar Heels are looking ahead to the next game, preparing in the best way possible.

"We're so focused on everything internal and getting better on the field and getting better in the meeting room that we could care less about what we see in the headlines or what's on the news," Hall said. "It's not going to affect this team."

The players are saying all the right things, and if they can block everyone out, great. But it could be easier said than done, especially with everything being out in the open with the investigation.

Head coach Bill Belichick has been trying to keep his team together through all the outside noise. But it can be difficult, especially with the team's general manager leaving.

"Obviously everybody's responsible, including me, for doing things properly," Belichick said. "And we intend to do that."

Luckily for the Tar Heels, Belichick has seen situations like this before in his coaching career. With the New England Patriots, he dealt with multiple situations that could have broken the locker room.

But Belichick has been one of the better leaders on the sidelines over the last decade-plus. This is new territory, however, since it's with a college program now.

All the Tar Heels can do is look ahead to their next game and let the chops fall as they may. North Carolina doesn't want this situation to take away from the massive opening win, and if Belichick can help it, it won't.

The Tar Heels will be taking on East Tennessee State in Week 2, giving them a chance to open the year 2-0. Kickoff is set for 9 a.m. PT/12 p.m. ET
