Bill Belichick is hoping that the 2025 season will become a distant memory as North Carolina shows progress in the upcoming season.

Belichick, former players, and others have trashed the 4-8. Clearly, there was a lot of dysfunction with the program, and the responsibility will ultimately rest with the head coach to remedy the situation.

After winning eight Super Bowls, six of them as a head coach, Belichick has spent decades working with football players who had elite skills. His coaching staff helped those players learn new skills, and that was one of the main pitches Belichick was supposed to bring to the college level for UNC recruits.

During an appearance on Barstool Sports' "Pardon My Take" published on Monday, Belichick argued the program is well-rounded for student athletes to have success at UNC.

“Our strength program is good, our nutrition, our chef is good, they have good food, good rest, good recovery, good training. Physically, they’ll be much better, and they already are much better,” Belichick said, via On3.

Belichick name-dropped several NFL athletes that he helped coach into elite stars in the league.

"And then, from a football standpoint, like our fundamentals and the techniques that we’ve used and coached the greatest players from the Tom Bradys, the Randy Mosses, the Dont’a Hightowers, the Stephon Gilmores, (Aqib) Talib, Ty Law, (Richard) Seymour," he said. "I mean, guys in the Hall of Fame, guys are some of the greatest players ever.

“This is how we taught them, this is how they did it, and these are the plays that we’re running. We’re running the same plays that they ran, and watch them do it. And they’re very receptive to that, you know. They’re like, they’re receptive, and I say appreciative of, like, 'Okay I’m learning from somebody who is really, really good at this skill, whether it’s a guard, a tight end, you know, quarterback.'"

The trick will be for Belichick to develop talent at the college level that might not have the same ceiling as in the pros.

At UNC, he'll have to do more with less, unless boosters are set to spend at a scale like Miami to win the ACC.
