Last year's 'Cats are going pro.

At Northwestern's Pro Day earlier this Spring, most of the eyes were on offensive linemen Caleb Tiernan and Evan Beernsten. This proved to be for good reason, as both former Wildcats were selected in last week's NFL Draft.

But now, some of the other players who showcased their talents at the event are going to get their NFL shot. It might not be coming in the form of an official contract, but five Northwestern Wildcats have chosen to accept invites to NFL mini-camps in recent days. With Aidan Hubbard and Fred Davis as the only official UDFA signings of the bunch, that means many of NU's best players in this class are headed to mini-camp.

Here's a rundown of where everyone is headed:

Martes Lewis: Washington Commanders

Lewis was the first Wildcat to accept a mini-camp invitation, choosing to take his shot with the Washington Commanders.

Lewis was a rotational tackle for the 'Cats in 2025 after coming over from Minnesota in the transfer portal. He wound up getting a lot of starts on the right side, opposite Tiernan.

A hulking presence on the offensive line, Lewis has some NFL promise given his sheer size, standing at 6-foot-7, 350 lbs.

Carmine Bastone: Kansas City Chiefs and New York Jets

Bastone wore No. 1 for Northwestern during his senior season, a jersey that carries a lot of weight in Evanston, befitting of a two-time captain. The defensive tackle has accepted offers to attend mini-camps with both the Chiefs and the Jets.

Bastone finished with 2.5 sacks and four TFLs last season, which was the best statistical year of his career. At 6-foot-2, 266 lbs, Bastone was able to be a quality run-stuffer in college. But that might change at the next level.

Preston Stone: San Francisco 49ers

Northwestern's starting quarterback from the 2025 season is getting his opportunity, too. Stone will be with the 49ers in mini-camp this year after an up-and-down singular season in Evanston.

Stone had a turnover issue with Northwestern that he had to clean up as the year went on. Otherwise, though, he was a great leader for the program and helped get a lot out of a young roster.

Opinions on Stone's tenure with the Wildcats are split, but the 49ers have decided to take a look and see what's there.

Mac Uihlein: Chicago Bears

Uihlein was Northwestern's starting MIKE this season, and he was the latest in a long line of successful middle linebackers with the program. He'll get a chance to showcase his tackling prowess with the Bears.

Last season, Uihlein finished with 100 total tackles and six TFLs. He's as sure-footed as they come when it comes to putting the ball carrier on the ground. While there were always some questions about his lateral speed and his ability to cover athletes, Uihlein has some obvious traits worth checking out for the home town team.

Luke Akers: Chicago Bears and Philadelphia Eagles

Lastly, Northwestern's kicker/punter is getting a few professional looks from the Bears and the Eagles. Special teams can be strange, so if Akers is able to impress, you never know what might happen.

So far, just these five players have accepted mini-camp offers, but there could still be more to come. Jackson Carsello, for example, seems like a likely name. Though he could also still sign a UDFA contract somewhere.

Nobody from last year's team besides Tiernan and Beernsten was drafted, but that doesn't mean everyone else's careers are over yet. Mini camp is an opportunity for them to show that they still belong.
