Former Northwestern Legend Signs Professional Contract in Turkey

Former Northwestern standout Boo Buie has found his next opportunity on the professional stage.

Buie has signed with Glint Manisa Basket of Turkey's top professional basketball league, beginning a new chapter in his career after competing in the NBA G League, China's CBA and, most recently, NBA Summer League with the Chicago Bulls.

The move gives one of the greatest players in Northwestern basketball history another opportunity to continue developing while competing in one of Europe's most respected professional leagues.

Buie's legacy at Northwestern is firmly established.

During five seasons in Evanston, he became the Wildcats' all-time leading scorer with 2,187 career points, adding 461 assists and 318 rebounds while helping lead Northwestern to two NCAA Tournament appearances. His leadership and clutch performances helped elevate the program into one of the Big Ten's most competitive teams under head coach Chris Collins.

As a senior during the 2023-24 season, Buie averaged 19.0 points, 5.0 assists and 3.3 rebounds per game, earning First Team All-Big Ten honors while cementing himself as one of the conference's elite guards.

Since leaving Northwestern, Buie has continued pursuing his NBA dream while gaining valuable professional experience around the world.

He opened the 2025-26 season with the Mexico City Capitanes in the NBA G League, where he started all 30 games and averaged 16.6 points, 4.6 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game, showcasing the scoring and playmaking ability that made him a Northwestern legend.

After his time in the G League, Buie continued his professional career with the Xinjiang Flying Tigers of China's CBA, averaging 12.0 points, 3.9 assists and 3.6 rebounds while shooting 42.4% from the field across 13 games. 

Those performances helped earn him another opportunity this summer with his hometown Chicago Bulls during NBA Summer League.

While his stint with the Bulls didn't produce the breakout Summer League he was hoping for, it still gave him another opportunity to compete against NBA-level talent and continue showcasing his skill set. 

Across five games, he averaged 5.6 points, 1.6 assists and 1.2 rebounds while continuing to showcase the toughness and competitiveness that have defined his career.

Now, Buie receives another fresh start.

Signing with Glint Manisa Basket gives him the opportunity to play meaningful minutes, continue developing his game and establish himself in one of Europe's most competitive leagues.

Turkey's Basketball Super League is widely regarded as one of Europe's strongest domestic leagues, producing players who regularly earn opportunities in the EuroLeague and the NBA.

For Buie, consistent playing time could be exactly what he needs.

Throughout his career, he has built a reputation as a dynamic scorer, confident shot-maker and reliable playmaker. A productive season in Turkey would not only strengthen his standing in European basketball but could also create another pathway back toward the NBA.

His signing also continues Northwestern's growing professional basketball presence.

Northwestern continues producing professional basketball talent. While veterans like Nia Coffey and Brooks Barnhizer have already established themselves professionally, recent Wildcats Nick Martinelli, Melannie Daley and Grace Sullivan have also begun their professional careers.

Buie now adds another chapter to that growing legacy while continuing to represent Northwestern overseas. 

Although his NBA aspirations remain alive, this move represents another important step in Buie's professional journey.

A strong season in Turkey could establish him as one of Europe's respected guards while opening the door to future NBA opportunities. Regardless of where his career takes him next, Northwestern's all-time leading scorer continues proving he belongs on the professional stage.
