Northwestern's men's basketball team is still over a month away from action, but 2026 recruiting is in full swing. The 'Cats are coming off an excellent recruiting season last year when they brought in the highest ranked class in program history.
Now, Chris Collins and co. have turned their attention to the next class, and news is starting to develop. This morning, Wildcat Report's Louie Vaccher reported that Northwestern will host 7-footer Sinan Huan this weekend, the No. 37 player in the class per Rivals.
The recruiting site also lists Huan as the No. 4 center in the class and the No. 2 player from his home state of Maryland. On 247Sports, the Chinese big-man doesn't rank quite as high, coming in as the No. 82 player overall, the No. 8 center and the No. 4 Marylander.
Obviously, Huan would be a massive get for Northwestern, a program on the rise. It will be difficult to get him to Evanston given his four-star ranking, but four-stars are no longer impossible for the 'Cats.
Elsewhere in the Big Ten, Illinois and Purdue have already submitted offers. That's a bad sign for Collins and his staff, but NU seems committed to taking these kinds of shots. Northwestern knows this is an important period in program history for recruiting, hoping to take advantage of perhaps its highest national standing ever.
Collins is also exhibiting a bit of a pattern so far this fall -- he clearly wants to sure up the big man situation. Earlier this month, recruiting analyst Sam Kayser of League Ready reported that 7-foot-3 center Symon Ghai would visit Evanston at some point this fall.
This makes perfect sense for Northwestern. Heading into this season, the biggest question mark is the center spot. Transfer Arrinten Page is the presumptive starter, and freshman Cade Bennerman will likely back him up.
Looking towards the future, Page has another season of eligibility, and Bennerman obviously has three. The issue is, neither are proven in the Big Ten, and neither are quite as big as either of these two recruits.
Northwestern's defense over the past few years relied a lot on Matthew Nicholson, a 7-foot human wall, playing on the interior. Without him, it remains to be seen if the defense will remain that effective.
Securing a recruit like Huan would help sure things up for the future.
