After the Ohio State Buckeyes' incredible start to the 2025 college football season, head coach Ryan Day and the program are now set to begin Big Ten Conference play after their first bye week of the year.
According to the university, the Buckeyes will take on the Washington Huskies on the road in week five at 3:30 PM EST, with the contest being broadcasted on CBS.
Ohio State's week five matchup marks the first time the program will face off against the Huskies since 2019 in the Rose Bowl. Luckily for the program, the Buckeyes were able to walked away from bowl game with a huge victory, 28-23.
Led by head coach Jedd Fisch, the newest member of the Big Ten Conference is coming off a rough 2024 campaign that resulted in a 6-7 record with a loss to the Louisville Cardinals in the Tony The Tiger Sun Bowl. Luckily for the Huskies, the program has quickly turned around the momentum this season, as Washington won two straight games to start the season.
In their first two games, the offense managed to outscore their opponents 108-31 thanks to the efforts of quarterback Demond Williams Jr. and running back Jonah Coleman.
Williams, as a first-year starter, has proven to be a lethal dual-threat playmaker on offense this season. Through his first two starts, the young quarterback has tallied 480 passing yards and two touchdowns, along with an additional 132 rushing yards and one touchdown on the ground. This dominant stretch was perfectly complimented by Coleman, who has recorded 288 rushing yards and seven touchdowns this season.
With the Huskies' one-two punch on offense, the week five battle is now the next test for the Buckeyes this season, especially for the defense. Newly-hired defensive coordinator Matt Patricia established himself as one of the best play callers in the nation after three excellent performances this year. Unfortunately for Day and the program, Washington's dynamic rushing attack could cause issues for Ohio State.
The Buckeyes have been able to contain opposing offenses through the air, but have shown signs of struggle when defending the run. Ohio State has allowed an average of 109.3 rushing yards per game this season, which ranks 11th amongst the Big Ten Conference. This gives Patricia and his defense a chance to prove themselves against the run, which will become a focal point for the Buckeyes for the rest of the season.
