Ohio State's bye week has come and gone, and the Buckeyes have now set their sights on the Washington Huskies. While Washington enters Week 5 unranked, the team is 3-0 and looking to catapult itself into national relevance.
It was just two seasons ago that the Huskies took on the Michigan Wolverines in the College Football Playoff National Championship and came up one step short of college football royalty forever. Their program was gutted as a "reward," and head coach Kalen DeBoer immediately packed for Alabama. They had to start over from scratch.
Now that Washington is back on its feet as a program, it is ready to take another step forward. A win over top-ranked Ohio State at Husky Stadium would accomplish that goal.
Fortunately for the Buckeyes, they are flawless coming off bye weeks in the Ryan Day era, with a perfect 6-0 record and a 33-point average margin of victory. However, in their most recent game in such a scenario, Ohio State only edged the Nebraska Cornhuskers by four points.
The Buckeyes are coming into Seattle playing up-and-down football. In their huge win over the preseason No. 1 Texas Longhorns, their performance was good enough to earn a 14-7 victory. They followed that game with a dominating victory over Grambling State and a nice win over Ohio.
Improvement in redzone execution is necessary, which was the major takeaway from their victory over the Bobcats. On three occasions against OU, the Buckeyes moved the ball inside the low red area and came away empty.
Amidst Ohio State's preparations for a trip out west, the program heard fantastic news regarding one of its coveted recruits. Three-star prospect Angelo Smith announced his commitment to the Buckeyes.
Usually, a three-star doesn't move the needle for them, but this prospect is different. Angelo is the younger brother of star wide receiver Jeremiah Smith. Columbus is now a family affair for the Smiths, and the Buckeyes will add as many as possible.
The best part about this time of the year is the beginning of conference play. Top programs are starting to face each other, and the landscape of the 2025 season is going to take shape. Week 4 commenced conference play in the Big Ten, and it will only improve as the weekends pass.
