Former Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer opens up about how he is feeling prior to Ohio State's matchup with Oregon.
Former Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer typically has a really good touch on what is going on in the program. A couple of weeks ago, he said that the Buckeyes should run with Tavien St. Clair as their quarterback after Julian Sayin's injury.
He was right about that decision, just as he has been right about so many other things in his new life as the Buckeye Godfather. He roams the sidelines like Ryan Day's shadow and seemingly knows everything that is going on inside the walls of the program.
Well, one thing that he knows is that Ohio State has its work cut out for it on Saturday against the Oregon Ducks.
He said that he is "panicked" over this weekend's matchup even with him being a Buckeye.
No matter Oregon's record, they are still a very elite roster, and the scary part is that it looked like they put everything together last Saturday against Northwestern. They put up over 30 points for the first time since Dante Moore was no longer their starting quarterback. On defense, they stiffened up when they needed to in order to stop a really tough Northwestern offense.
It was an impressive victory that preceded the Buckeyes' disaster in Los Angeles. Ohio State was thoroughly beaten by the USC Trojans in all phases on both sides of the football in a game that was truly one of the most disappointing performances in Ryan Day's tenure as the Buckeye's head coach.
He and Ohio State must respond on Saturday because their lives are on the line. It's clear the Buckeyes cannot afford another loss this year. They are already on the outside looking in for the College Football Playoff. One more loss removes them completely; however, a win-out puts them firmly into the dance.
It all begins on Saturday with the matchup against the Ducks. Ohio State is a 9.5-point favorite, and if it were played on paper, the Buckeyes would win 9 out of 10 times.
The unfortunate part is that the game is not played on paper; it is played on grass, and what the Buckeyes put out last week was embarrassing on many levels. They have to show up and bring their best effort, or they will get beat. If they get beat, their postseason hopes are dead, and they will have wasted yet another elite roster.
Urban Meyer is panicked and so are many Buckeye fans as they gear up for this game.
