Ohio State Buckeyes' head coach Ryan Day took the high road on Saturday afternoon during the team's celebration of defeating the Michigan Wolverines on the road.

As Ohio State Buckeyes’ fans begin to celebrate the program’s Week 14 victory over the Michigan Wolverines, the No. 1 team in the nation decided to handle the win with grace and not let history repeat itself in 2025.

Following the team’s victory on Saturday afternoon, head coach Ryan Day made it clear that he wanted the Buckeyes to “win with humility,” and did not allow his players to plant an Ohio State flag at center field.

Planting the flag has become something the Buckeyes have dealt with in losses that occur at home, with the most recent instance coming in the team’s loss to Michigan in the 2024 matchup.

As three-touchdown favorites last year, Ohio State fell to the Wolverines at home, 13-10. After the upset, multiple Wolverines attempted to plant their flag in the center of the field, causing a post-game fight to break out at The Shoe.

However, this was not the case in 2025.

When asked about the Week 14 victory, Day told reporters that he believed that “the best thing to do is to win with humility.”

I’m going to save those comments [about beating Michigan] because I think the best thing to do is to win with humility, and that’s what we are going to do,” Day stated. “It speaks to our program, it speaks to what it means to be a Buckeye, and we wanted to take this rivarly game back this year, and the way our guys played certainly spoke to that.”

For the first time as the head coach of the program, Day has successfully beaten Michigan and has officially broken the four-game losing skid over the Wolverines.

This is also the first time since 2020 that Day has finished the regular season with an undefeated record, which was a shortened season due to COVID-19.

Now, the Buckeyes are set to take on the No. 2 Indiana Hoosiers in the Big Ten Conference Championship next week at Lucas Oil Stadium. The clash between the top two teams in the nation will likely determine who receives the No. 1 spot in the 2025 College Football Playoffs.
