The Ohio State Buckeyes head coach, Ryan Day, made a major statement on Wednesday as he met with the media after Ohio State's Spring Ball practice.
As if future recruits need even more of a reason to come to Ohio State, they have something that they can hardly argue with. Day said, "If I'm a recruit and I come in and I have Arthur (Smith) on offense and Matt (Patricia) on defense, I know I'm gonna get coached like an NFL team."
Mic drop, exit stage left.
This is exactly the truth, and one of the main reasons why Day assembled the staff the way that he did. While many doubted, myself included, how Patricia would fit at the college level, he proved that he has the goods to be a great coach and put together very, very good defense.
The jury is still out on offensive coordinator Arthur Smith as he has to prove what he can do, and frankly, the bar is set pretty high.
On the plus side, he has one of the most accurate quarterbacks, the best wide receiver in the country with Jeremiah Smith, a formidable backfield, and a very veteran offensive line.
All he has to do is push the right buttons.
All of that is to say, in a world where college football is becoming increasingly more like the NFL, the Buckeyes are just becoming an NFL team.
They train like professionals, they speak like professionals, and now, they will be coached like professionals on both sides of the football.
The last step is that they just have to win in the postseason like they are chasing a Super Bowl Championship.
One of the things that has changed completely in the college game is that being perfect was a necessity to make the postseason. Now that the playoff has expanded to 12 teams and the tournament is three, maybe four games, it is critical that teams are prepared for a long run and are playing their best football at the end of the season.
Come to Ohio State to have a first-class college experience, develop at the highest level of college football, and be coached to go to the NFL, not just win college football games.
It's different in Columbus, and if you want to jump on the bandwagon, you'd better be ready to be a pro.
