Ohio State star wideout Jeremiah Smith had a message to college football after his record day vs Iowa.
The Ohio State Buckeyes took down the Iowa Hawkeyes in one of the bigger games from the college football weekend slate this week.
Coming into the game, some were wondering how the Buckeyes would fare playing in Kinnick Stadium, which was been a tough place for opponents at times. But the Buckeyes had no issues at all, taking down Iowa 31-14 on the road.
But in the game, star wide receiver Jeremiah Smith made another statement, showing why he should be the frontrunner for the Heisman Trophy this season. Smith had 11 catches for 206 yards and two touchdowns, setting up his team to win.
His performance was special, reminding everyone about how great of a player he truly is. And after the game, Smith sent out a message to everyone in the sport to understand.
“I gotta let the Heisman voters, or whatever it is, know that I'm the best player in the country," Smith said.
In the game against Iowa, Smith set the Ohio State career records for both touchdowns and catches, which is a tough feat to accomplish. Given how many strong wide receivers have come through Ohio State, Smith now sits as the best of the best, and he isn't done just yet.
Over the last few weeks, Smith has been on another level, helping the Buckeyes' offense look like the best version of itself. For the season, Smith has caught 44 passes for 823 yards and nine touchdowns through the first five games of the year.
If Smith can keep up this level of dominance on the field, Ohio State will be very tough to take down for any team. Smith has the ability to be a true game-changer, which isn't easily said about a single player in a sport like football.
But the Ohio State star stands above the rest, and he could very well be in line to win the Heisman Trophy this season. The Buckeyes have made it a point to feed him the ball during games, and he has delivered whenever called upon.
Of course, the ultimate goal for this team isn't to just have him win personal awards, but instead have the team go after a title. But if Smith can do both in the process, the Buckeyes will be very happy with how the season could turn out this year.
Next up for Smith and the Buckeyes will be a matchup against Maryland, offering him another chance to put together a record performance. If Smith continues this, the Buckeyes may not lose another game this season.
