Jeremiah Smith continues to track down one record after another, and Saturday he got his hands on another one.
Ohio State's Jeremiah Smith continues his assault on college football in 2026. On Saturday against the USC Trojans, he grabbed yet another record as he continued his breakneck pace.
Smith's day on Saturday was pretty incredible. For the most part, USC covered up Jeremiah all night long, but he was able to break through at the end.
It was very tough sledding for Smith all night long in Los Angeles and it was in large part due to what he got from the quarterback play. Starter Julian Sayin missed Saturday night's game and true freshman Luke Fahey replaced him.
To say it was a tough performance by Fahey would be an understatement. From the quarterback to the play caller, getting Smith the football was simply not a main priority until the second to last drive.
On that drive, the Trojans let the Buckeyes roll down the field, methodically wasting a lot of clock. The Buckeyes took it deep into the red zone, and after trying to run it on first down, they came to their senses and decided to get the football to Smith.
Smith lined up on the far left and ran a quick speed out to the front pylon. Fahey put it on his numbers, Smith hauled it in, and with the catch, he pulled in his 40th career touchdown, passing Michigan's Braylon Edwards for the most in the conference, all time.
There are simply no superlatives left to describe Jeremiah Smith. He is truly the best wide receiver to ever play college football, full stop. He is bigger, faster, and stronger than everyone who tries to cover him, and he has been that way from the moment that he stepped onto campus.
Smith now not only own the Ohio State triple crown, but he owns the most touchdowns ever in the history of one of the most storied conferences in all of the country.
Who knows what is going to happen from here. The Buckeyes need to win out the rest of the way in order to make the College Football Playoff, and to do that, they are going to need Smith to be at a superhuman level.
I'm not sure that he can play quarterback and throw the football to himself, but if he could, the Buckeyes should put him back there.
Regardless of what happens the rest of this season, there is nothing to take away from what Jeremiah Smith is as a receiver and is as an Ohio State Buckeye.
Jeremiah Smith has the most touchdowns in the history of Big Ten Football, and no one can take that away from him.
