Ohio State head coach Ryan Day makes a major guarantee about his star, Jeremiah Smith.

There has only been one team that has bottled up the superstar Jeremiah Smith. Smith has dominated nearly every other team that he has faced except for the Texas Longhorns.

In two games against Texas, Smith has just seven catches for 46 yards and no touchdowns. Yes, those stats are for the great Jeremiah Smith, who has been the best player in the sport for the two full years that he has played.

Ohio State head coach Ryan Day was asked about Smith's lack of production against Texas and what he is going to do to try and fix that.

While acknowledging that Smith elevates everyone else's game, Day said, "We’re gonna work hard to make sure that he has a major impact on the game.”

As Day has been pretty much all year to this point, he has been much more of an open book than we are used to hearing from him. He has really just told it like it is and what his approach is going to be.

I'll be curious to see how this offensive game plan is drafted after a comment like this because one of Day's superpowers is his ability to settle into games and adjust to what the defense is giving him.

He has never really zeroed in on one player; he has let the defense dictate what to do, and he has been the one to push the envelope, but it sounds like this will change.

No matter what his numbers have been against the Longhorns, Smith has still impacted the football game significantly. One of the major beneficiaries of Smith's gravitational pull was Carnell Tate. Tate had two big games against the Longhorns in the Seminfinal and in the season opener last year.

The Buckeyes believe that they have a legitimate player in Devin McCuin to be Smith's true No. 2 target, but that is still unproven. When the chips are down, the Buckeyes need Smith to be a major part of the offensive game plan on Saturday night.

It will not be enough for the Buckeyes to only benefit from him elevating others. He needs to make an impact with the ball in his hands, and if he does, the Buckeyes will have a strong chance of coming home with a major win under their belt.

If they don't, they will be back to the drawing board with several games left on their schedule that will be incredibly difficult to overcome.
