Oklahoma State’s 2027 Big 12 baseball schedule has a little bit of everything. The Cowboys face reigning champion Kansas and College World Series semifinalist West Virginia on the road, while also drawing opportunities against teams that finished near the bottom of the league.
Oklahoma State baseball officially knows its path through the Big 12 in 2027. And there's a little bit of everything.
The conference released its 2027 schedule Thursday, giving the Cowboys ten Big 12 series beginning March 19 against Kansas State at O'Brate Stadium and ending May 20-22 at home against Houston.
In between? Oklahoma State will see some of the best teams the Big 12 had to offer last season. It'll also see some of the worst.
The Schedule Gets Serious Late
The stretch that immediately jumps out comes in May. Oklahoma State travels to Kansas from May 7-9 before heading directly to West Virginia from May 14-16.
That's quite the back-to-back road challenge. Kansas enters as the reigning Big 12 champion after winning its NCAA Regional last season before falling in the Super Regional round.
Then there's West Virginia. The Mountaineers went considerably further reaching the College World Series and ultimately finished third nationally.
So if Oklahoma State finds itself fighting for Big 12 positioning late in the season, those six road games could become extremely important.
There Are Opportunities Too
Not everything on the schedule looks quite that intimidating. OSU also travels to Arizona from April 23-25 before eventually closing the regular season at home against Houston.
Those two programs finished at the bottom of the Big 12 standings last season, combining to go just 16-44 in conference play.
Obviously, college baseball rosters change. Last year's records don't guarantee anything about 2027.
But on paper, those are series Oklahoma State should enter expecting to win if it wants to contend near the top of the conference.
The Full Big 12 Road
OSU opens against Kansas State before traveling to TCU. Then comes BYU at home, Utah on the road, UCF at home, Arizona on the road and Texas Tech in Stillwater.
After that comes the difficult Kansas-West Virginia road swing before Houston visits O'Brate Stadium to finish the regular season.
One notable break? Oklahoma State avoids Arizona State and Cincinnati, which finished third and sixth, respectively, in last season's Big 12 standings. Not a bad draw.
OSU Will Be Looking to Take Another Step
Oklahoma State finished 39-22 overall and 18-12 in Big 12 play last season, good for fifth in the conference.
The Cowboys also reached their 13th consecutive NCAA Regional before their season ended against Alabama in Tuscaloosa. That's another solid season.
But the standard for Oklahoma State baseball has always been higher than simply reaching a Regional.
The 2027 schedule will give the Cowboys plenty of opportunities to prove they're capable of more.
Final Thoughts
There are difficult stretches. There are manageable stretches. And then there's that Kansas-to-West Virginia road trip sitting there in May. That's the portion I'll circle immediately.
If Oklahoma State wants to contend for a Big 12 championship in 2027, it'll eventually have to prove it can beat the teams that were playing deep into last June.
We'll learn plenty about the Cowboys during those two weeks. And if they survive them?
Oklahoma State could enter the final weekend against Houston with quite a bit still to play for.
