Defending their national title, the Sooners face a brutal gauntlet featuring ten postseason contenders and marquee SEC showdowns against Georgia, Texas, and Tennessee in a high-stakes 2027 campaign
If Oklahoma was hoping for a soft landing after winning the national championship, the 2027 schedule did not get the memo.
Skip Johnson’s club released its full slate Wednesday, and it is built exactly like a defending champion’s calendar should be: 54 games, 27 of them at Kimrey Family Stadium, and almost no room to ease into the year.
The Sooners are lined up to face 10 teams that made the 2026 NCAA Tournament, including seven Super Regional clubs and three College World Series teams in Georgia, Ole Miss, and Texas.
That is not a schedule designed for comfort. That is a schedule that keeps asking whether last June was a peak or a standard.
The non-conference portion sets the tone early.
For the third time in four years, Oklahoma opens at the Shriners Children’s College Showdown at Globe Life Field in Arlington from Feb. 19-21. The field is no joke either. The Sooners draw Arizona, Clemson, and TCU while trying to defend the Showdown title they won a year ago.
From there, Norman gets its first look at the defending champs when Omaha comes in for the home-opening series on Feb. 26-28.Then it is right back to the Dallas-Frisco footprint. Oklahoma meets Texas Tech on March 2 at Riders Field, stays in Frisco for the Frisco Classic against UC Irvine, Kansas, and Southern Miss from March 5-7, and plays a Monday rematch with Kansas on March 8 before finally settling in against San Diego State at home on March 12-14. South Dakota State comes in for a midweek on March 16, and then the real grind starts.
Year three in the SEC gives the Sooners five home series and five road series, and the league path is front-loaded with difficult rooms. Oklahoma opens conference play at Tennessee on March 19-21, the program’s first series in Knoxville. A Bedlam midweek in Stillwater follows on March 23, then Auburn comes to Norman for the SEC home opener on March 25-27. Dallas Baptist shows up twice in midweek play, first in Dallas on March 30 and later back in Norman.
The heart of the slate is where the defending champions really get tested.
Georgia, a 2026 CWS foe and the reigning SEC champion, visits Kimrey from April 2-4. Oklahoma then heads to TCU on April 6 and Texas A&M from April 9-11 for its first trip to College Station since the old Big 12 days in 2012. A six-game homestand follows with Northern Colorado, Kentucky in the Wildcats’ first trip to Norman, and Oral Roberts. After that come road series at Missouri and Mississippi State, the latter marking OU’s first trip to Starkville since a 1992 regional. The closing stretch stays heavy. Texas comes to Norman on May 7-9. Ole Miss hosts the Sooners on May 14-16, Oklahoma’s first trip to Oxford since a 2005 regional. Oral Roberts gets the final midweek, and South Carolina closes the regular season in Norman on May 20-22 in the Gamecocks’ first visit to Kimrey.
After that it is Hoover for the SEC Tournament, then the NCAA bracket path that every title defender chases again.
The bigger backdrop is obvious.
Oklahoma is coming off the program’s third national championship, a run that included nine wins over national seeds and an 11-2 postseason record after a modest 14-16 SEC mark during the regular season. That is what makes this schedule interesting. The Sooners already showed they can get hot at the right time. Now the calendar is going to ask if they can handle the weekly standard that comes with the target on their backs.
They will try to do it with some continuity and a lot of new blood. Oklahoma returns 14 players from the title team, including freshman All-American left-hander Cord Rager and CWS All-Tournament names Dasan Harris and Jason Walk. The Sooners are also bringing in 25 newcomers, 19 of them transfers, with fall practice already underway. That is a lot of turnover for a team that just won it all, and it makes the early-season tests in Arlington and Frisco even more important.
Game times and TV details will come later, and as always the schedule can shift with television.
The important part is the shape of the year. Oklahoma did not build a soft title-defense card. It built a season full of old rivals, new SEC rooms, and enough quality opponents to leave no doubt about where the standard sits after 2026.
