Former Oklahoma big man Tae Davis will be entering the transfer portal, having one year of eligibility left
After a recent court hearing regarding college athletes potentially receiving another year of eligibility, the Oklahoma Sooners have lost a key basketball star to the transfer portal. Tae Davis, who was a major contributor in the paint last season for Oklahoma, decided to take his additional season elsewhere. Thanks to Judge Charlotte Sweeney out of Colorado, the injunction requires the NCAA to give athletes from the high school class of 2022 eligibility for the 2026-2027 academic year.
Although Davis is in the portal, it is uncertain on where he will decide to land. The only thing that could stand in Tae's way is the transfer rules since that wasn't part of the injunction. Because Davis did not enter the portal in the spring window, NCAA rules do not allow him to enter after the portal has closed.
The 6-foot-9 forward began his collegiate career at Seton Hall where he averaged just 2.8 points per game. Out of the two seasons at Notre Dame, his junior year was the highlight. He averaged 15.1 points and 5.3 rebounds in his final season with the Irish before transferring to Oklahoma. Although Davis didn't score as much for the Sooners (13 PPG), he had his best overall shooting percentage at 49.7%.
Out of Oklahoma's 37 games in the 2025-2026 season, he scored in double figures in 28 of them. While he can score from mid-range and occasionally from three, he primarily was a solid presence in the paint. This is a critical loss for the Sooners as they could use another big man inside or another forward that can stretch the floor.
With Tae now gone, Oklahoma still has three spots available on the roster for the upcoming season. While Porter Moser has gotten some solid pickups in the portal, there is still work to be done for the Sooners to be able to make the Big Dance this March.
