A program-record 18 national broadcasts signal Oklahoma's ascent to blue-blood status as Jennie Baranczyk’s squad prepares for a high-profile slate featuring heavyweights like South Carolina and UCLA
Oklahoma women’s basketball did not just get a schedule release this week. It got a statement about where the program sits nationally.
In partnership with the SEC, the Sooners announced their television schedule and broadcast windows for the 2026-27 season, and the headline number is hard to miss. Oklahoma will make a program-record 18 national television appearances during the regular season across ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, SEC Network, and FOX.
More than half of the conference slate will be on national platforms, and seven non-conference games made the cut as well. That is not a soft local package. That is a blue-blood-level television footprint for a program that has earned it under Jennie Baranczyk.
The early calendar already shows how visible this team is going to be.
Oklahoma opens the real season against North Carolina on Nov. 2 at 1:30 p.m. on ESPN2, which is a serious way to start the year. From there, the non-conference stretch mixes in the usual home building blocks with bigger stages, including Virginia and Montana State in late November, Syracuse on the road in the SEC/ACC Challenge on Dec. 3, Michigan at home on FOX on Dec. 5, and Oklahoma State on ESPN2 on Dec. 12. If the goal is keeping the team in front of a national audience before SEC play even settles in, this does that.
The league slate is where the schedule gets especially loud.
Oklahoma draws ESPN windows at Tennessee and South Carolina in January, gets UCLA in New Jersey on FOX, and later brings South Carolina into Norman on ESPN2. There is also a Kentucky home game with an ESPN family designation, a Vanderbilt night game on ESPN2, and a home date with Texas on ESPN2 to close February. Road games at Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Arkansas, Florida, and LSU round out a conference season that will not leave the Sooners short on résumé opportunities or prime inventory.
That kind of exposure fits the recent trajectory.
Oklahoma enters the year ranked No. 14 in The Athletic’s preseason top 15 after going 26-8 last season and reaching the Sweet Sixteen for a second straight year. It was also the program’s fifth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance under Baranczyk.
The Sooners are no longer asking for attention. The TV inventory says the sport is already giving it to them.
The roster reason is obvious enough. Oklahoma brings back seven players from last year, led by ESPN National Freshman of the Year Aaliyah Chavez and Sahara Williams, plus five more returners who saw the floor and a seven-player newcomer group with three freshmen and four transfers. This is still a team with continuity and enough new pieces to stay aggressive. National windows only raise the standard around that.
All home games and road SEC contests not selected for national broadcast will still be available on SEC Network+, so the full season remains covered one way or another. The bigger point is how often Oklahoma is being moved into the main lanes.
When a program starts showing up this often on ESPN platforms and FOX, it usually means one of two things: the brand is strong, the product is strong, or both. In this case, it is both.
The Sooners have spent the last several years making women’s basketball in Norman feel important again. The 2026-27 television schedule is what that progress looks like on paper.
