Coughran joins an unprecedented 2027 class, bolstering Oklahoma's offensive line with a physical, high-motor lineman ready to dominate
The Oklahoma Sooners continued their recruiting mastery as three-star interior offensive lineman Isaac Coughran from Katy High School in Texas announced his commitment to the program.
The 6-foot-4, 295-pound prospect made his pledge public after a strong showing during his recent visit to Norman, becoming the 20th member of what is already the nation's No. 1-ranked 2027 recruiting class.
Coughran, a fast-rising interior offensive lineman, chose Oklahoma over offers from programs such as Arizona, Baylor, Houston, and others. He received his offer from the Sooners in February 2026 and quickly prioritized the visit, where the combination of elite coaching, championship culture, and development plan sealed the deal.
Scouting reports describe him as a physical, high-motor player with good size for the interior, strong hands, and the frame to add even more weight and power as he matures.
While listed as a three-star on major services (with a 247Sports rating around .88), his rapid rise and fit in modern power schemes make him a valuable piece for Brent Venables' offensive line rebuild.
This commitment strengthens an already loaded offensive line group in the 2027 class. Coughran becomes the fifth offensive lineman pledged, joining five-star OT Cooper Hackett, five-star IOL Kaeden Penny, three-star OT Luke Wilson, and three-star IOL Tyson Ross.
With elite bookend talent in Hackett and Penny, plus depth across the interior and tackle spots, Oklahoma is building a massive, SEC-ready trench unit that could dominate for years.
The addition of Coughran comes on the heels of an historic surge earlier in March. The "Future Freaks" junior day weekend delivered multiple commitments, including four-star QB Jamison Roberts, four-star S Jaylen Scott, four-star TE Seneca Driver, and four-star ATH Greydon Howell.
Earlier that week, five-star LB Cooper Witten (son of tight ends coach Jason Witten) also pledged, giving the class star power on both sides of the ball.
By the numbers, Oklahoma’s 2027 class now stands at 20 commits: 3 five-stars, 10 four-stars, and 7 three-stars.
The group maintains the top spot in the 247Sports Composite Team Rankings with an elite average rating, featuring premium talent at quarterback (Roberts), tight end (Driver), linebacker (Witten), and now reinforced depth on the offensive line.
Head coach Brent Venables and general manager Jim Nagy deserve significant credit for this momentum. Nagy’s advanced scouting has helped identify high-upside prospects like Coughran early, while Venables’ staff has excelled at closing on visits and building genuine relationships.
Coming off a College Football Playoff appearance and heading into the 2026 season as a preseason top-10 team, the Sooners are enjoying their strongest recruiting wave since the Bob Stoops era.
This high school-heavy approach is strategically smart. By securing talented developmental prospects who can stay in the program longer, Oklahoma creates continuity and depth.
The transfer portal can then be used surgically to fill specific needs rather than as the primary building block. The result is a more stable roster with homegrown players who buy into the culture, setting the stage for sustained SEC contention and national championship aspirations.
With Coughran’s pledge, the 2027 class inches even closer to what many believe will be the greatest in Oklahoma football history.
The Sooners are not just collecting commits; they are constructing a foundation of size, athleticism, and character that aligns perfectly with Venables’ vision.
