The Oklahoma Sooners are dominating the College Football recruiting scene, securing 20 commitments for a potentially historic 2027 class
The Oklahoma Sooners are not just competing in the ruthless SEC recruiting landscape, they are currently dominating it. With 20 commitments already secured for the Class of 2027, Oklahoma sits firmly atop the national rankings in the 247Sports Composite.
The class features an impressive mix of elite blue-chip talent, high-upside four-stars, and solid developmental pieces that position it to potentially become the greatest high school recruiting class in Sooners program history.
Headlining the group are three five-star prospects who anchor both lines and the defense:
- 5-Star OT Cooper Hackett (Fort Gibson, OK) — One of the top offensive tackles in the nation.
- 5-Star LB Cooper Witten (Argyle, TX) — Explosive linebacker and son of new tight ends coach Jason Witten.
- 5-Star IOL Kaeden Penny (Bixby, OK) — A dominant interior lineman who pairs perfectly with Hackett to give OU elite bookend and interior protection potential.
The four-star talent is equally impressive and adds immediate depth and versatility across the roster:
- 4-Star ATH Greydon Howell (Broken Bow, OK) — In-state athlete projected as a dynamic slot receiver.
- 4-Star TE Seneca Driver (Danville, KY) — One of the top tight ends nationally, a massive get under Jason Witten.
- 4-Star QB Jamison Roberts (Saraland, AL) — Dual-threat signal-caller who brings mobility and arm talent.
- 4-Star S Jaylen Scott (Mobile, AL) — Rangy safety with ball-hawking instincts.
- 4-Star WR Demare Dezeurn, 4-Star LB Taven Epps, 4-Star EDGE Krew Jones, 4-Star RB Keldrid Ben, 4-Star DL Elija Harmon, and 4-Star CB Mikhail McCreary.
Rounding out the class are seven three-star prospects who provide valuable depth and developmental upside:
- 3-Star IOL Isaac Coughran, 3-Star DL Deven Robertson, 3-Star CB Mikyal Davis, 3-Star OT Luke Wilson, 3-Star RB Jaxsen Stokes, 3-Star WR Tra’Von Hall, and 3-Star IOL Tyson Ross.
By the numbers: 20 total commits consisting of 3 five-stars, 10 four-stars, and 7 three-stars.
This balance gives the class elite star power at premium positions while maintaining solid depth. The recent surge has been nothing short of electric.
A standout “Future Freaks” junior day weekend in early March delivered multiple commitments in rapid succession: four-star QB Jamison Roberts, four-star safety Jaylen Scott, four-star tight end Seneca Driver, and four-star ATH Greydon Howell all pledged within a short window, following five-star linebacker Cooper Witten’s announcement earlier in the week.
That momentum pushed the Sooners from an already strong position to the undisputed No. 1 class in the country.
Much of the credit belongs to General Manager Jim Nagy for his advanced scouting and player evaluation, paired with Head Coach Brent Venables’ relentless effort and vision on the recruiting trail.
This recruiting success comes at a pivotal time for the program. Fresh off a College Football Playoff appearance and entering the 2026 season with a preseason top-10 ranking, Oklahoma has more momentum than it has enjoyed since the peak of the Bob Stoops era.
The Sooners are building something sustainable and special in Norman. SEC Championships and consistent national championship contention are no longer hopes, they are becoming realistic expectations.
By investing heavily in high school recruiting, Oklahoma is also creating long-term roster stability. Developing homegrown talent that stays in the program for three or four years makes the transfer portal a tool for targeted gap-filling rather than the foundation of the roster.
This hybrid model of high school development plus strategic portal additions gives the Sooners a clear edge as they navigate the modern realities of college football.
With several months still remaining in the 2027 cycle, the ceiling for this class remains extraordinarily high. If Oklahoma can maintain its current trajectory, the 2027 group has all the ingredients to rank among the most talented and impactful classes ever assembled in Norman.
