With the 2026 college football season right around the corner, it’s time to take a look at the Oregon Ducks and head coach Dan Lanning’s toughest matchups for the upcoming season.

Luckily for the highly-touted program, Oregon’s 2026 schedule is projected to be lighter than last season’s slate. Still, the easy schedule features multiple primetime matchups that could determine the program’s success in 2026, along with the Ducks’ chances of making a run in the 2026 College Football Playoffs.

Here are the five toughest matchups for Oregon during the 2026 college football regular season.

One of the Ducks’ sneakiest matchups next season comes in the form of a Week Two, non-conference game against the Oklahoma State Cowboys, who are looking to rebound with newly-hired head coach Eric Morris.

The Cowboys finished last season with an abysmal 1-11 record, resulting in the firing of former head coach Mike Gundy. However, the combination of quarterback Drew Mestemaker and a home-field advantage early in the season could give the Ducks some issues to begin the 2026 season.

The heated rivalry between Oregon and the Washington Huskies will always be a tough contest for Lanning’s squad, with the upcoming battle being no different in 2026.

The Ducks, over the past few seasons, have been able to withstand the Huskies prolific offensive attack, with last year’s contest resulting in a huge 26-14 victory on the road. Now, Oregon is set to take on star quarterback Demond Williams Jr. and the Huskies on its own field, making for an epic final regular-season game.

Another program that Oregon is familiar with throughout its time in the PAC-12 is the USC Trojans, as the Ducks are once again scheduled to take on head coach Lincoln Riley’s squad this season.

Last year, Oregon was fortunate to face off against the Trojans in Eugene, leading to a massive 42-27 victory. This season, however, will be a much taller task for Lanning and his squad, as quarterback Jayden Maiava brings a full season of experience under his belt.

Despite the late coaching change this offseason, it’s clear that Oregon will have to take the Michigan Wolverines seriously in 2026.

Led by former Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham, the Wolverines showed plenty of promise throughout the course of last season, but were unable to fully put together a complete resume. But with Whittingham’s experience against the Ducks during his time with the Utes could create complications for Oregon when the program hosts the longtime Big 10 Conference member in Week 11.

Oregon’s toughest matchup of the 2026 college football season will take place in Week 10 when Lanning and his squad will travel to Columbus to take on the Ohio State Buckeyes.

After two straight losses to the Indiana Hoosiers in the Big 10 Conference Championship and the Miami Hurricanes in round one of the 2025 College Football Playoffs, quarterback Julian Sayin and the Buckeyes will be seeking revenge in 2026. The last time these two powerhouse programs faced off was in the 2024 Rose Bowl, when Ohio State dismantled Oregon, 41-21.

Now, Lanning gets a shot at redemption this season in a game that could determine who reaches the 2026 Big 10 Conference Championship Game.
