Oregon Ducks' star Kenyon Sadiq squashed all questions about his athletic ability with his performance on Friday at the NFL Combine.
Sadiq dropped jaws with his scorching 4.39 40-yard dash after measuring in at 6-foot-3 243 lbs. His athletic ability is what stands out on his tape, and he doubled it down with his performance on Friday.
While he was elite with his testing, he separated himself off the field in his meetings with each of the teams.
NFL Network's Mike Garafolo was quoted as saying, "He’s walking into interviews and explaining exactly what everybody else's assignment is. I had one guy say, 'It was the best interview I've ever had.'"
That is high praise for a guy who is incredibly plugged in to the league. The description of those meetings resembles a quarterback.
Oftentimes, in those speed dating interviews, there is a section of the meeting that is personality questions, your typical tough interview brain busters. Then, after that, there is a section that is getting on the film screen and then on the whiteboard.
It is common practice for a team to pull up a player's film and have them describe plays on the board or actually get on the whiteboard and install a play or two.
This exercise allows a player to really flex his ability to understand football.
As it turns out, Sadiq may have a quarterback-like processing and understanding of the game.
The guarantee in Sadiq's game is his athletic ability. He is, without question, one of the top-3 most athletic players in this entire draft. However, what doesn't make the most sense is that his numbers don't really match up with his athletic abilities.
He finished last year with just 51 catches for 561 yards and 8 touchdowns. Those are solid numbers, but not numbers that would justify the type of hype he is receiving.
Sadiq is a massive ball of clay that an NFL team can mold into the next great player. It sounds like his football mind matches his athletic ability, and in my opinion, that raises his floor significantly.
Sadiq's ceiling is limitless, and his floor is rising. Whichever organization gets this player is getting a guy who can absolutely be a game-changer for years to come.
