The Oregon Ducks and head coach Dan Lanning could potentially land a massive commitment from a highly-touted offensive recruit in the 2027 class.
The Oregon Ducks and head coach Dan Lanning have done a tremendous job this offseason of building for the future on the recruiting trail.
Earlier this year, Lanning and the Ducks managed to land a total of six commits for the upcoming recruiting class, including four-star defensive lineman Zane Rowe and four-star running back CaDarius McMiller. However, Oregon’s hot start in the 2027 recruiting class is far from over, with the coaching staff on the hunt for numerous prospects.
One name that is beginning to gain traction is four-star tight end Charles Davis, who currently holds a slew of Power Four offers. Luckily for the fanbase, Rivals’ Sam Spiegelman spoke to Davis about his recruitment thus far, stating that Lanning is “one of his favorite coaches in college football.”
“Oregon puts tight ends in the league every year,” Davis told Spiegelman. “I love the overall family aspect. Coach Lanning is one of my favorite coaches in college football. To play under him one day would be cool.”
Davis’ Recruitment Journey
Davis has quickly become one of the hottest prospects within the 2027 recruiting class, as he is the No. 19-ranked tight end, as well as a top-30 prospect in the state of California, according to 247Sports' Composite. Throughout his time at Westlake High School, the talented offensive weapon has tallied 69 catches for 1,029 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns in his last two seasons.
Standing at 6-foot-5, 200 lbs., Davis already possesses a terrific frame for a high school prospect looking to become a star at the college level. In addition to his build, the 2027 recruit has outstanding athleticism, and he can be a well-rounded blocker in the run game.
In order for Lanning and the coaching staff to land Davis, the Ducks must compete against multiple highly-touted programs. This includes a fellow Big 10 Conference team in the Michigan Wolverines, along with two in-state schools in the UCLA Bruins and the California Golden Bears.
Fortunately for Oregon, Davis is set to take an official visit to Eugene on Jun. 12, which will be the last of his five official visits this summer.
