With the 2026 recruiting cycle officially coming to a close, it’s time to look at the Oregon Ducks and head coach Dan Lanning’s upcoming class.
While the Ducks have yet to make serious noise within the cycle, Lanning received some positive news regarding one of the program’s top targets earlier this week.
According to Rivals’ Adam Gorney, 2027 five-star safety Honor Fa'alave-Johnson has scheduled an official visit to Eugene on Mar. 14, which will be one of eight visits for the highly-regarded defensive prospect.
JOE LUMAYA/SPECIAL TO THE STARFa'alave-Johnson is one of, if not the best, players in the upcoming recruiting cycle. Currently, he is the No. 1 safety prospect in the 2027 class, as well as the No. 1 prospect in the state of California, according to 247Sports Composite. Despite only being a junior, Fa'alave-Johnson already possesses 38 offers, including the Alabama Crimson Tide and the USC Trojans.
One of the key reasons why the elite prospect landed a slew of offers is due to his incredible junior season at Cathedral Catholic High School. As a two-way player, Fa'alave-Johnson recorded 38 tackles, four pass deflections, and two interceptions, while also tallying 1,874 all-purpose yards and 28 touchdowns on offense.
Standing at 6-foot-1, 190 lbs., Fa'alave-Johnson is clearly one of the best athletes every time he steps on the field due to his outstanding versatility on offense and defense. His size and quickness allow him to be a lethal threat when defending the pass and run, while also making him a legitimate playmaker out of the backfield on offense.
Unfortunately for Lanning and the Ducks, the program will have to fight off multiple college football powerhouses to land Fa'alave-Johnson. Outside of his visit to Oregon, the California native is scheduled to visit USC, Ohio State, Alabama, LSU, and Notre Dame in April.
In addition to his jam-packed schedule, Fa'alave-Johnson will also visit Texas and Miami next month.
Looking at the Ducks upcoming class, Lanning has managed to land four commits in the cycle, including four-star EDGE Cameron Pritchett. If Oregon secures Fa'alave-Johnson, he would become the third defensive commit in the class, alongside Pritchett and three-star linebacker Sam Ngata.
