The Ducks shattered an unwanted decade-long record after sluggish starts against Boise State and Oklahoma State exposed deep flaws in Dan Lanning’s highly-ranked roster.

The No. 6 Oregon Ducks entered the season as a favorite to make the College Football Playoff and compete for a first-ever national championship.

The Ducks didn't have an easy start to their schedule, starting the regular season against Boise State, a favorite to win the Pac-12 and make an automatic bid for the CFP. Oregon had to come back to beat the Broncos 34-27 in Week 1.

Week 2 had Oregon traveling to play Big 12 program Oklahoma State. The Ducks trailed 17-7 in the second quarter before going into halftime down 17-14. In the third quarter, Oregon trailed OSU 27-24.

Per Tom Fornelli of CBS Sports, the Ducks made some sad history in their contest against Oklahoma State, becoming the only college football team since 2014 to trail by 10 or more points in consecutive games as a favorite of more than 24 points.

"From CBS Sports research: Oregon is the only team since 2014 to trail by 10+ points in consecutive games as a favorite of 24 points or more," Fornelli posted on X.

After Oregon's performance against Boise State last week, head coach Dan Lanning voiced his concern about the way his team started the season, noting he had a lot to clean up before Week 2.

"There's a lot to fix," Lanning said. "There's a lot to clean up. I think these guys are going to come out motivated to be able to attack that, right? We didn't play as well as we could play today.

"Boise State did a great job, right? We didn't. We had enough at the end. Our quarterback (Dante Moore) played well throughout the day. So kudos to him. We got to figure out how to get a stop. We got to figure out how to play cleaner as a team."

Oregon still has a lot to clean up if it hopes to survive a difficult Big Ten schedule that's rapidly coming up.

The Ducks have plenty of talent on both sides of the ball, but their playmakers have started games sluggishly, a bad sign for a team that had similar problems against elite teams in 2025.
