Matt Campbell raves about Taylor Mouser's recruiting prowess and offensive innovation, highlighting his pivotal role in past successes and promising future for Penn State's offense.
Penn State offensive coordinator Taylor Mouser has a big job this offseason.
New Nittany Lions head coach Matt Campbell brought Mouser over with him from Iowa State. Mouser will need to get PSU's offense up and going with a mix of players from the 2025 roster and additions from Iowa State.
Mouser hasn't had his top quarterback leading the team during spring practice. Rocco Becht was limited at practice as recovers from the two shoulder injuries he suffered in 2025.
When speaking to reporters recently, Campbell explained how Mouser has progressed from his time at Toledo to moving with Campbell to Iowa State and now to Penn State.
Campbell credited Mouser with being a strong recruiter, helping to land players like Brock Purdy and Breece Hall. He helped develop wide receive Allen Lazard and Hakeem Butler.
"So you got to in leadership roles," Campbell said, via video from centredaily.com. I still believe you got to be curious enough to continue to evolve and change, and you got to be a great connector of that room, you know.
"And he's (Mouser) done an incredible job. He's a great leader. He's got a really bright future, for sure, from global logistics to your local grocery store, from."
Campbell praised Mouser for helping to build the offense that made the Big 12 championship in 2024.
"Taylor really did a great job kind of reorganizing our offense after 22 and they were both a huge piece of that," Campbell said. "And you know, it was a pretty, pretty easy decision on who deserved the right to take over the reins of the offense.
"And again, you know what we did in '24 and '25 offensively? '24 you know, an awesome year. And then '25 you had a new group of guys that kind of surrounded Rocco (Becht), and I thought we did a really great job."
Iowa State and the Big 12 was a big jump for the coaching staff coming from Toledo and MAC. Penn State and the Big Ten will be an even bigger challenge, as the expectation in State College are much higher than they were in Ames.
This season will be an important test for Mouser, and it could help him land a head coaching job.
