Penn State head coach Matt Campbell had some encouraging words for his team after they took down Temple on Saturday.

The Penn State Nittany Lions were able to grab a big win in Week 2 of the college football season, taking down Temple 27-9.

Penn State now sits at 2-0 on the season, giving head coach Matt Campbell his second win with the program. But this game with the Owls wasn't as easy as the final score seemed to suggest.

The Nittany Lions found themselves down 3-0 in the second quarter, with the offense struggling to put anything together. However, this group responded to the challenge in front of them, rallying off 27 unanswered points to grab the win.

But it was how his team met the moment that impressed Campbell the most. Campbell has said all offseason that he believed this was a tight-knit team, but seeing it show on the field is the most telling part of it all.

“I would just say that's probably the proudest that I can leave, and it's what I told our guys in the locker room,” Campbell said. “I felt like nobody flinched, nobody wavered. There was no complaining.”

The entire team, from the offense to the defense, came together, helping to get the team to 2-0. But the offense was led by star quarterback Rocco Becht, who threw for 268 yards and three touchdowns.

Becht has now thrown for 529 yards and seven touchdowns with zero interceptions through the first two weeks of the season. His performance again showed why the Nittany Lions brought him over with Campbell from Iowa State.

But this team is still growing, learning how to win different types of games. So, this contest against Temple, where everything seemed bleak for a moment, will be a lesson moving forward.

“We all just stayed together,” defensive end Yvan Kemajou said. “We all take energy off each other and just make sure we all just play together.”

This team wants to prove itself in the Big Ten this season, hoping to make an unexpected run to the College Football Playoff. While this is still a long way away, the Nittany Lions are off to a great start this year.

“Our eight players stepped up in eight moments and made eight plays, which is what you hope will happen in adverse situations,” Campbell said “I thought those guys did a great job of that for sure.”

Penn State will host Buffalo next week, looking to go 3-0 on the new year. The schedule gets a little tougher after this, so all the lessons from now should only help this team.
