The Penn State Nittany Lions and head coach Matt Campbell continue their dominant run in the 2027 recruiting class with a massive commitment from a four-star offensive weapon on Monday.

The Penn State Nittany Lions and newly-hired head coach Matt Campbell are off to an impressive start on the recruiting trail this offseason.

After having to start from scratch in the 2027 recruiting cycle following the departure of former head coach James Franklin, the Nittany Lions managed to land six commitments in the current class. This includes four-star wide receiver Landon Blum out of the state of Iowa and three-star linebacker Blake Betton.

However, this is only the beginning of a new era in State College, as Campbell and his coaching staff continue to make noise in the 2027 class.

According to Rivals' Hayes Fawcett on Monday morning, 2027 four-star tight end Cooper Terwilliger has committed to Penn State over the likes of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

What Terwilliger Can Bring to Penn State

Terwilliger is one of the most intriguing high school talents in the current recruiting class, as he is currently the No. 1-ranked prospect in the state of South Dakota and the No. 12 tight end in the 2027 class cycle, per 247Sports' Composite. The 6-foot-5, 225 lbs. offensive weapon received interest from Notre Dame and the reigning National Champions, the Indiana Hoosiers, but ultimately decided on the Nittany Lions after a recent unofficial visit to the program earlier this month.

As a three-year starter at T.F. Riggs High School, Terwilliger recorded 1,372 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns on 98 catches. During his sophomore and junior seasons, he quickly caught the attention of many college programs after finishing both years with 549 receiving yards and four touchdowns. Terwilliger's stout frame allows him to be an excellent big-body target for his quarterback and a terrific blocker in both the pass and run game.

Looking at the rest of the Nittany Lions' 2027 class, Campbell now possesses seven commits. The addition of a young playmaker from South Dakota to the group gives Penn State a total of two offensive players in the upcoming recruiting class, with both Terwilliger and Blum being the highest-rated prospects in the class, according to 247Sports' Composite.

Terwilliger is also set to take his official visit to State College on Jun 5, which will be a perfect opportunity for him to sway the nine recruits set to visit on the same day.
