The Penn State Nittany Lions and head coach Matt Campbell have landed their first commit within the 2027 recruiting class last week.

Brighter days are finally ahead for the Penn State Nittany Lions’ football program with newly-hired head coach Matt Campbell at the helm.

After officially taking over as the team’s head coach following the departure of James Franklin, the former Iowa State coach managed to land a total of 38 transfers this offseason for the 2026 college football season. While the program, as a whole, is focused on preparing for the upcoming season, the coaching staff continues to make progress within the 2027 recruiting class.

Last week, Rivals’ Hayes Fawcett reported that 2027 three-star cornerback Semajay Robinson has committed to Penn State, over the likes of Florida State, Pitt, and Missouri.

What Robinson Brings to the Table for Penn State

Robinson, coming out of Fort Lauderdale, FL, is one of the more underrated prospects in the 2027 recruiting cycle. As of March, the talented defensive back is currently the No. 46-ranked cornerback in his class, as well as the No. 41 prospect in the state of Florida, per 247Sports Composite.

Despite the recent coaching change at Penn State, Robinson remained a key target for the Nittany Lions throughout the entire duration of his recruitment journey. Former defensive backs and interim head coach Terry Smith made a strong push for the Florida native early in his recruitment, and after taking an unofficial visit to State College on Mar. 28, Robinson quickly announced his commitment to the program.

Standing at 6-foot-2.5, 190 lbs., Robinson jumped on the radar of many colleges during his junior year at Palm Beach Central, as he recorded 17 tackles and one pass breakup in 2025. Now, the blossoming prospect is set to finish his senior season at Dillard High School and will likely be a key playmaker during the 2026 season.

Looking ahead at the rest of Penn State’s 2027 recruiting class, Robinson is the first prospect to announce his commitment to Campbell and the Nittany Lions. However, the program is set to host a slew of recruits for official visits this summer, including multiple four-star prospects in wide receiver Khalil Taylor, running back Gary Walker, and interior offensive lineman Kyler Kuhn.

Robinson will also take his official visit to State College on Jun. 5.
