As the Penn State Nittany Lions continue their dominant performance on Saturday night against the Nebraska Cornhuskers, running back Kaytron Allen has officially notched his name in the program’s record books.
On the first drive of the fourth quarter Allen picked up a three-yard gain, which led to him officially passing former highly-touted Penn State running back Evan Royster for the most rushing yards in program history.
The senior playmaker came into Week 13 just 139 rushing yards away from the record, and Allen was able to get off to a hot start early in the contest with a massive 50-yard run in the first quarter.
This impressive performance would carry for the rest of the first half, recording 12 carries for 90 rushing yards before the second half.
Allen, a former four-star prospect in the Nittany Lions’ historical 2022 recruiting class, was not even the best running back in the highly-touted group. However, former head coach James Franklin managed to find a way to incorporate both Allen and Nicholas Singleton on offense from the moment the duo stepped foot on campus.
In his first two seasons in State College, Allen tallied 1,769 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns on 339 carries.
It wasn’t until his junior season in 2024 that Allen would reach the 1,000 mark, as he finished the year with 1,108 rushing yards and eight touchdowns during the program’s College Football Playoff run.
Despite Penn State not meeting the high expectations for this year set during the offseason, Allen was the bright spot on offense, especially with star quarterback Drew Allar suffering a season-ending injury earlier in the season.
Singleton saw a steep decline in his production with the Nittany Lions in 2025, but this was not the case for Allen, who came into Saturday’s contest with 917 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns on 163 carries.
His performance also helped him reach the 1,000 rushing yard mark, making it back-to-back seasons of reaching 1,000 yards on the ground.
While Allen did not have as much draft hype as Singleton coming into the 2025 season, his incredible season has skyrocketed his draft stock prior to the 2026 NFL Draft. Depending on how Allen closes out his senior season, the newest record-holder for the program could find himself selected on day two of the draft.
