Penn State quarterback Rocco Becht is racking up the preseason award watch lists.
One of Penn State's newest and most important pieces for next year's roster is their quarterback, Rocco Becht.
Becht comes to Penn State with his head coach, Matt Campbell, whom he has played for his entire college football career. It was four seasons at Iowa State before Becht graduate transferred to Penn State for his final year of football.
Becht is coming into the year after a very average senior season in Ames, Iowa, but you wouldn't believe it from some of the preseason hype he is receiving.
Becht is racking up the preseason awards watch lists. It started with the Maxwell Award, the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, and now it has extended to the Davey O'Brien Award and the Manning Award watch lists.
It is a pretty impressive list of watch lists, as far as a list like that goes, but it signifies the respect that Penn State is getting on a national level. If people believed that Penn State's group this year wasn't going to be worth anything, Becht wouldn't be on any of these lists.
The Nittany Lions have a very unique challenge in front of them. They are coming off an incredibly bizarre season that resulted in the program basically being stripped down to the studs.
New head coach Matt Campbell has built the program completely back up and has it in a place where they are looking to compete. The schedule shakes out in a pretty amazing way, as they avoided nearly all of the top of the Big Ten Conference.
With all of that positive momentum comes some pretty lofty expectations for the Nittany Lions. It will be a real challenge for the Nittany Lions to make the playoffs, but it is almost getting to the point where that is the expectation for this group.
If things go according to plan, Becht is going to very much be in the conversation for all of these awards that he is on the watch list for. It will be very unlikely for him to win any of them, let alone all of them.
However, the important part is the respect that he has as a player on a national level and the respect that this Penn State program is receiving across the board.
It is pretty impressive and your can't help but be excited for what is to come for the Nittany Lions next year.
