SMU basketball got a monster performance from Boopie Miller on Saturday, but it wasn’t enough to overcome a red-hot Florida State squad in Tallahassee.
The Mustangs dropped a 91-78 decision to Florida State in the final game of the ACC regular season, despite Miller delivering the best offensive performance of his career.
The SMU guard erupted for 32 points on 11-of-20 shooting, including 7-of-11 from 3-point range, giving the Mustangs a much-needed scoring spark throughout the afternoon.
Unfortunately for SMU, Florida State simply had too many answers.
The Seminoles leaned heavily on Chauncey Wiggins, who turned in a dominant night with 31 points and nine rebounds, torching the Mustangs' defense.
Wiggins shot 10-of-14 from the field and buried six three-pointers, leading Florida State to its third straight victory to close the regular season.
The game shifted late in the first half.
Florida State went on a 16-6 run to close the half, building a commanding 45-27 lead at the break. Wiggins accounted for 16 first-half points, helping the Seminoles seize momentum and control the tempo for the rest of the night.
SMU battled throughout the second half but could never fully close the gap.
Samet Yigitoglu added 15 points and nine rebounds for the Mustangs before fouling out, while Corey Washington chipped in 12 points before also exiting with foul trouble.
Despite those contributions, SMU struggled defensively as Florida State shot 52 percent from the floor and 47 percent from beyond the arc.
The Mustangs finished the night shooting 42 percent overall and 39 percent from three, respectable numbers that still couldn’t match the Seminoles’ offensive efficiency.
With the regular season now complete, SMU closes at 19-12 overall and 8-10 in ACC play, while Florida State improves to 17-14 and 10-8 in conference action.
Both teams now shift their focus to the ACC Tournament, where seeding will determine their path in what promises to be a chaotic and wide-open postseason.
