Bryson DeChambeau says any PGA Tour comeback depends less on executives and more on whether players want him back.
Former SMU golf standout and current LIV Golf Star Bryson DeChambeau isn’t ruling out a PGA Tour return.
But he says the decision won’t come down to money, executives or even the future of LIV Golf. For him, it starts with the locker room.
The two-time U.S. Open champion said his path back to the PGA Tour depends heavily on whether fellow players would actually welcome him after his high-profile move to LIV Golf in 2022.
“It’s really about if the membership wants me back,” DeChambeau told Skratch. “That’s what it’s about.”
DeChambeau, 32, became one of LIV Golf’s biggest names after leaving the PGA Tour for the Saudi-backed league.
He was also part of the legal fight involving players who challenged the Tour after joining LIV, which could make any potential return more complicated.
The timing is especially interesting. LIV’s long-term future has become a bigger question after Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund reportedly indicated it won’t continue funding the league beyond the season.
DeChambeau said that caught him off guard after previously believing LIV had financial backing through 2032.
“I was completely shocked,” DeChambeau said.
Earlier this year, DeChambeau had a chance to return through the PGA Tour’s returning member program but stayed with LIV instead. Brooks Koepka took a different path, making DeChambeau’s choice even more notable.
Still, DeChambeau’s future may not be strictly tied to tour golf. His YouTube channel has grown to 2.69 million subscribers, giving him a major platform outside traditional competition. He has openly discussed content creation as a bigger part of his career.
But he still believes golf needs a solution.
“I think it requires a little bit of everybody just lowering their guards,” DeChambeau said.
For now, DeChambeau’s message is simple: he’s open to a reunion, but only if the players are, too.
