The Mustangs hurt themselves in the loss to Louisville, but Lashlee is confident his team has learned its lesson.
The SMU Mustangs have moved on from their 41-31 loss to Louisville, with Rhett Lashlee's team proving to be its own worst enemy, as Missouri State comes into view.
With the Mustangs now 2-1, it is crucial that Lashlee's team gets back on track and also tightens up its game in all three phases.
The interceptions, fumble, and stops on fourth down all ensured the Mustangs never truly got rolling against the Cardinals.
We know how talented this team is, but when you shoot yourself in the foot as often as the Mustangs did, you don't win many football games.
And with Missouri State now coming into focus, Lashlee has liked what he's seen from his team in terms of a response, and is bullish that his team has fixed what it needed to after the loss.
"I'm happy with how they're moving on from disappointment," Lashlee said. "We failed to take advantage of an opportunity, but I'm really confident we're going to make all the proper adjustments in all three phases now, three games into the season, having a really good feel for what we have and where we got to make the proper adjustments to become the team that we've become."
And the team they want to become is one that fights for the ACC title.
Granted, that took a hit against Louisville, but one thing that can't happen is one loss turning into two.
This is a game, no disrespect to Missouri State, but it's one the Mustangs should be winning, provided they don't get in their own way again.
Turnovers have been a problem, as has the run defense, but Lashlee is confident the adjustments have been made and that this team is ready to roll.
