The Mustangs have landed a commitment from Highland Park quarterback Buck Randall, who will look to make DFW history as a senior before heading to SMU.
One of the most prolific passers in the state of Texas is staying home.
Highland Park quarterback Buck Randall (class of 2027) is committed to SMU, he announced on social media on Friday.
Randall starred for the Scots last season, throwing for 4,396 yards - the most in the state last season and the eighth-most of all high school quarterbacks in the country.
He accounted for 63 total touchdowns in guiding Highland Park to a 12-2 record and a perfect 6-0 record in UIL 5A District 1.

With another season of that stature as a senior, Randall could be on the precipice of elite company in the Texas high school football ranks.
Randall, with 8,303 career passing yards, needs 4,230 more to become the all-time leading passer among Dallas-area high schools. The record is currently held by 2003 Ennis grad Graham Harrell, who went on to star in Texas Tech's air-raid offense.
Before he can catch Harrell, Randall is on pace to quickly pass a future Hall of Famer for the Highland Park school record. Randall is 655 yards away from surpassing Matthew Stafford's career passing yards total. Stafford graduated from Highland Park in 2006, played collegiately at Georgia, and is now a Super Bowl champion and multiple-time Pro Bowler on the Los Angeles Rams.
The 6-0, 175-pounder Randall committed to the Ponies over North Texas, Colorado State, Texas State, UTSA, and UAB, among others.
"The chance to be a part of one of the top programs in the country with an incredible coaching staff," Randall said to Rivals in reacting to the offer from SMU quarterback coach D'Eriq King and head coach Rhett Lashlee.
"I’ve really enjoyed developing a relationship with Coach King and Lashlee, and seeing how they’re such brilliant offensive minds and people of high character.”
The Mustangs are suddenly loaded in the quarterback room for the incoming 2027 class, as 4-star recruit Malachi Zeigler also committed to SMU in October of 2025.
Rivals ranks Zeigler, from Benton High School in Louisiana, as the No. 22 quarterback in the 2027 class.
