SMU quarterback Kevin Jennings is emerging as a 2027 NFL Draft name after throwing for 3,641 yards and 26 touchdowns.

SMU quarterback Kevin Jennings isn’t just putting up numbers anymore. He’s starting to force his way into the 2027 NFL Draft conversation.

The next quarterback class is already getting major attention because of names like Texas star Arch Manning and Oregon’s Dante Moore, but Jennings has earned a place on the watch list.

After following up his breakout 2024 season with an even stronger 2025 campaign, the Mustangs’ quarterback has become one of the more intriguing passers NFL evaluators will be tracking this fall.

Jennings finished 2025 with 3,641 passing yards, 26 touchdowns and 13 interceptions, giving SMU another explosive season under center. The production is real, but the style is what makes him interesting.

He’s not a boring pocket statue. Jennings can stretch defenses vertically, attack all three levels of the field and create chaos when plays break down.

That combination puts pressure on defensive coordinators because they can’t just sit back and play coverage.

If they give him time, he can settle in and rip throws. If the pocket cracks, he has the athleticism to escape and make something happen with his legs.

That’s where the NFL curiosity starts.

At 6-0 and 192 pounds, Jennings doesn’t have the prototypical size some scouts still love, but today’s league is more open to quarterbacks who win with movement, creativity and timing.

He has enough arm talent to push the ball downfield, and when he’s protected, he shows the ability to scan, reset and deliver.

The next step is cleaning up the danger plays.

Jennings’ 13 interceptions are the stat that will keep scouts from getting carried away too quickly.

The same confidence that makes him electric can also put the ball in trouble. For Jennings to climb into a higher draft tier, he’ll need to show he can balance aggressiveness with control.

That’s the line he has to walk.

SMU has already become a more visible program in the ACC era, and Jennings gives the Mustangs a quarterback worth watching nationally.

If he sharpens the decision-making while keeping the explosive plays, his stock could rise fast.

The 2027 quarterback class may be loaded at the top, but Kevin Jennings has the tools to make NFL teams look twice.
