Boopie Miller leads SMU’s All-ACC honors while B.J. Edwards and Jaron Pierre Jr. boost the Mustangs ahead of the ACC Tournament.

The SMU basketball program is gaining national attention, and the latest All-ACC honors prove just how impactful the Mustangs’ backcourt has been this season.

Boopie Miller, B.J. Edwards, and Jaron Pierre Jr. all earned recognition from the conference on Monday, highlighting the rise of SMU basketball under head coach Andy Enfield.

The headliner is Boopie Miller, who landed on the All-ACC Second Team after delivering one of the most dynamic seasons in the league.

The senior guard has been the engine behind SMU’s high-powered offense, averaging 19.4 points per game, the fifth-best mark in the ACC, while also dishing out 6.6 assists, second in the conference.

Miller’s efficiency has been just as impressive. He’s shooting 47.5 percent from the field, 42.4 percent from 3-point range and 87 percent at the free-throw line, making him one of the most complete guards in college basketball. His playmaking has also fueled five points-and-assists double-doubles this season.

But Miller’s season has been defined by clutch moments.

None was bigger than his half-court buzzer-beater against Virginia Tech, a stunning shot that secured a 77-76 victory and instantly became one of the highlights of the ACC season.

SMU’s success has not been a one-man show, though.

B.J. Edwards has emerged as one of the most disruptive defenders in the conference. The senior guard was named to the ACC All-Defensive Team while also receiving votes for Defensive Player of the Year and Most Improved Player.

Edwards is averaging 12.7 points, 5.9 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 2.3 steals per game, with the steals number ranking first in the ACC and 11th nationally.

He has also recorded two triple-doubles, placing him among just three players in the country with multiple triple-doubles this season.

Then there’s Jaron Pierre Jr., another key offensive weapon for the Mustangs. Pierre earned All-ACC Honorable Mention after averaging 17.5 points and 5.0 rebounds per game while shooting 46.3 percent from the field and nearly 38 percent from beyond the arc. He has already delivered 12 games with 20 or more points, including a 35-point explosion in an overtime win over Texas A&M earlier this season.

Together, the trio has powered a Mustangs team averaging 85 points per game, the second-highest scoring mark in the ACC.

Now sitting at 19-12 overall, SMU enters the ACC Tournament looking to build momentum, starting with a matchup against Syracuse.

If Miller, Edwards and Pierre keep producing at this level, the Mustangs may have plenty more basketball left to play this March.
