Bryson DeChambeau missed the Masters cut after a brutal finish at 18, while Jon Rahm and Brian Harman fought their way into the weekend at Augusta.
Bryson DeChambeau at the Masters went from shaky to crushing in a matter of minutes Friday at Augusta National.
Entering the final hole of his second round, DeChambeau appeared to have a clear path to the weekend. Instead, one disastrous closing sequence sent one of the tournament’s biggest names packing.
DeChambeau reached the 18th tee in position to survive the cut, but things unraveled fast.
A miss off the tee put him in immediate trouble, and from there, the hole only got worse. By the time he finally finished, the damage was a triple bogey 7, dropping him to 5-over par and outside the cut line.
For a player who began the week among the favorites, it was a brutal way to leave the 2026 Masters.
The collapse was especially painful because DeChambeau had done just enough earlier in the round to steady himself.
A late birdie on the back nine had given him life, and for a moment, it looked like he might escape after an uneven two days. Instead, Augusta delivered another reminder that nothing is safe until the card is signed.
While DeChambeau’s week ended in frustration, Jon Rahm managed to hang around.
The 2023 champion rebounded from a rough opening round and did enough Friday to land right on the number at 4-over, which was enough to keep his tournament alive. It wasn’t pretty, but it was enough.
Brian Harman produced one of the more impressive recoveries of the day.
At one point, he was deep in trouble, sitting at 10-over through four holes, but he flipped his round with a surge of birdies and battled all the way back to 4-over to make the cut.
There was heartbreak elsewhere, too. Akshay Bhatia briefly gave himself hope with a big moment late, only to follow it with a damaging finish that sent him home.
Former Masters winners Danny Willett, Bubba Watson and Zach Johnson also missed out on the weekend.
That’s Augusta in a nutshell. One hole can save you. One hole can end everything.
