DALLAS - SMU women’s basketball guard Zahra King added another impressive achievement to her breakout 2025-26 season on Tuesday, earning College Sports Communicators Academic All-District recognition after emerging as one of the Mustangs’ top performers.
The SMU women’s basketball standout handled the classroom at a high level, pairing a 3.51 cumulative GPA in finance with the best scoring average on the roster.
For a program continuing to build momentum, King’s all-around year gave SMU a player who produced, led, and represented the team the right way.
King, a sophomore from Brooklyn, started 29 of 30 games and averaged a team-best 14.4 points per game. She shot 43.1 percent from the field and knocked down 45 three-pointers, giving the Mustangs a reliable scoring threat throughout the season.
She reached double figures 19 times and topped 20 points in six games, showing she could carry the offense when SMU needed a lift.
Her production climbed even more in conference play.
Against ACC competition, King averaged 15.6 points per game while shooting 38.3 percent from the floor and 36.4 percent from beyond the arc. She also totaled 31 steals, flashing the kind of activity that impacted both ends of the floor.
The signature moment of her season came on the road against Pitt, when she poured in 40 points in a historic performance.
That outburst made King just the third player in SMU women’s basketball history to score 40 in a game. She buried 7 of 12 attempts from 3-point range in that win, tying for the second-most made 3s in a single game in program history.
Awards like this tend to mean more because they reflect the complete picture.
In King’s case, that picture is pretty clear: she’s becoming one of the most important young players in SMU women’s basketball, and she’s doing it with numbers, consistency, and discipline that stand out well beyond the box score.
