SMU women’s tennis shut out Louisville on the road, improving its ACC mark and riding dominant doubles play into a growing late-season push.
SMU women’s tennis kept its road swagger alive Friday, and Louisville never really got a chance to breathe.
The Mustangs walked into ACC play away from Dallas and handled business with a 4-0 sweep, showing again why this team is becoming a serious problem when it grabs momentum early.
That formula started, as it often does, in doubles.
SMU locked down the doubles point for the 14th time this spring, and that number says plenty about the team’s identity right now.
When the Mustangs control the opening phase, they become tough to chase. Sophie Llewellyn and Natalie Stasny struck first with a 6-1 win, and the pairing of Addison Comiskey and Ellie Mireles followed by sealing the point with a 6-3 result.
Then No. 10 Amelie Van Impe and Caroline McGinley added another statement, winning 6-4 and moving to 12-1 together this season.
Once SMU got in front, the pressure only grew. Comiskey was ruthless in singles, delivering a 6-0, 6-0 demolition on court six for her second straight win.
That kind of result flips a match fast, and the Mustangs kept pouring it on. No. 63 Van Impe handled a tough battle on court one, taking a 7-5, 6-4 victory after fighting through a tighter second set.
Then No. 61 Llewellyn slammed the door on court two, winning 7-6(5), 6-3 to clinch the sweep.
Llewellyn’s win was another big one for a player who has become a steady force in the lineup. She now owns 10 dual-match singles wins and 20 total victories on the 2025-26 campaign, both team highs.
In conference play, she continues to stack results with five ACC singles wins.
The bigger picture is getting more interesting for SMU.
The Mustangs are now 6-2 in true road matches, 4-1 in ACC road contests, and have posted four team shutouts this season.
Next up is another road test at Notre Dame. If SMU brings this same edge to South Bend, the Mustangs could keep climbing.
