DALLAS - SMU women’s tennis is back in the NCAA Championships, giving the Mustangs another postseason chance in the first year under head coach Jeff McKenna.
No. 25 SMU earned an at-large bid Monday and will face Wichita State in the first round on Saturday, May 2, at 11 a.m. in Norman, Oklahoma.

The regional will be hosted by No. 6 overall seed Oklahoma, which opens against Kansas later that day at 2 p.m. The winners will meet on Sunday, May 3, with a spot in the next round on the line.
For SMU, the matchup comes with a little extra juice. Wichita State beat the Mustangs earlier this season in Kansas, giving SMU a clear revenge angle heading into NCAA play.
The Mustangs enter the tournament at 15-7 overall after going 7-5 in conference play. This marks the program’s 14th NCAA Tournament appearance and its third trip in the last four seasons, a strong statement for a team navigating its first season in the McKenna era.
SMU’s postseason hopes are led by freshman Amelie Van Impe, who has quickly become one of the top players in college tennis.
Van Impe, the ACC Freshman of the Year and an All-ACC Singles First Team selection, is ranked No. 21 nationally. That’s the highest singles ranking by an SMU player since 2011.
Sophie Llewellyn gives the Mustangs another ranked singles option at No. 93, adding important depth to the lineup.
SMU also has a ranked doubles team, with Van Impe and Caroline McGinley checking in at No. 25 nationally after earning All-ACC Doubles Second Team honors.
Now the Mustangs head to Norman with momentum, rankings and a shot to flip an earlier result against Wichita State when it matters most.
