Nic Codie, a Carrollton native, is back in the Metroplex after transferring from Texas to SMU.

SMU Men's Basketball recently picked up a high-major commitment out of the transfer portal as former Texas Longhorns power forward Nic Codie has committed to the Mustangs.

For Codie, the move is a homecoming. He was formally a 4-star recruit from Newman Smith High School in Carrollton, less than half an hour north of the SMU campus.

Out of high school, he was a top-100 recruit nationally and one of the best prep players in the state of Texas.

The 6-8 big man comes to The Hilltop with two seasons of eligibility remaining. He averaged 4.1 points and 3.1 rebounds per game for Sean Miller and the Longhorns last season.

Codie began the season as a starter, then saw his role diminish as the Horns made a push toward the NCAA tournament. However, in the Round of 32, a win over Gonzaga, Codie recorded a season-high 12 points and was a big factor in Texas returning to the Sweet 16.

Codie spent two seasons in Austin as he endured the coaching change of Rodney Terry moving out and Miller being hired prior to last season. As a true freshman under Terry in 2024-25, Codie appeared in 19 games but played just 5.4 minutes per outing.

As Miller continues getting settled in Austin, it doesn't appear that he's missing a step in the transfer portal despite Codie's exit. The Longhorns rank as the No. 4 team in On3's transfer portal rankings after signing multiple highly-rated transfers, including TCU starting forward David Punch.

Codie is Andy Enfield's second transfer portal addition this cycle, North Texas' David Terrell Jr. also committing to SMU.

The Mustangs will be losing 7-foot Turkish center Samet Yigitoglu (Indiana), Chance Puryear (undecided), BJ Davis-Ray (undecided), and Mitchell Holmes (undecided) via the portal.
